Distance Education Programmes

Overview

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) offers academic programmes in distance education mode to enable interested candidates in expanding their legal knowledge in a globalized world. Distance education programmes do not have barriers of age restriction. The minimum eligibility is a graduate degree from a recognized university. The courses available are:

•  Master of Business Laws (P.G. Degree) [2 years programme] - MBL

•  One year Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights Law - PGDHRL

•  One year Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics - PGDMLE

•  One year Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law - PGDEL

•  One year Post Graduate Diploma Intellectual Property Rights Law - PGDIPR

•  One year Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights Law - PGDCRL

The course usually begins in July every year. Admissions are usually completed by June 30 . However, at the discretion of the Vice Chancellor candidates may be admitted upto 31st August on payment of late fee of Rs.500/-

Admission form and Handbook may be obtained upon payment of Rs.1,000/- through demand draft (DD) favouring Registrar, NLSIU, payable at Bangalore . The address for correspondence is:

The issue of form and Handbook commences from April . The price of the form and Handbook is Rs.1,000/- The filled-in application form may be submitted on or before 30 June without late fee and 31st August with late fee of Rs.500/-

Courses and the prescribed papers

In accordance with pursuit of academic excellence, DED regulations have recently been revamped to add further rigour to the programme. Accordingly, candidates are advised to check www.nls.ac.in/ded and not rely upon HANDBOOK of DED insofar as it deals with project/assignments

Candidates are expected to write 100 marks in-class examination for each paper. Annual examination is held in June and the supplementary examination in January / February. Grading system is followed for evaluation of performance. Minimum B grade (50% marks) is required to pass a paper. A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 is necessary to complete the course.

2. POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RIGHTS LAW (PGDHRL)

Paper I - Human Rights, Rule of Law and Constitutional Governance
Paper II - International Bill of Rights and Enforcement - Civil and Political Rights
Paper III - International Bill of Rights and Enforcement: Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
Paper IV - Human Rights, Legal Aid and Access to Justice
Paper-V-Dissertation

Candidates are expected to write 100 marks in-class examination for each paper. Annual examination is held in June and the supplementary examination in January / February. Grading system is followed for evaluation of performance. Minimum B grade (50% marks) is required to pass a paper.
