M.Phil (Master of Philosophy)
Eligibility
LL.M. Degree either from NLSIU or from any other recognised University, securing not less than a 'B' grade or an aggregate of 50% marks or its equivalent.
Admission Procedure
Eligible candidates, may apply to the Registrar in the prescribed form, which can be obtained on paying the prescribed fee by Demard draft drawin on the Corporation Bank or any other nationalised bank, in favour of Registrar, NLSIU, payable at Bangalore.
The candidates have to submit the following along with their application.
a)An outline of the scheme of research intended for the thesis (Research Proposal) about 10 to 12 pages.
The research proposal should contain:
i)Title
ii)Statement of the problem and the background information on the subject
iii)A set of research questions along with Hypothesis & Methodology
iv)A Research Design containing chapters
b) A certificate from the institution concerned testifying the length of service, whereever required;
c) An attested photo copy of the Eligibility qualification Certificates and mark sheets;
d) One set of published papers, monographs, articles and books, if any.
Section for M.Phil is based on the initial screening of the research proposals submitted by the candidates along with the application. Only selected candidates will be called for an interview and presentation based on which the final selection will be made.
Duration
Minimum one year and maximum three years.
Evaluation
The dissertation submitted by the candidates shall be referred to a panel of two external examiners for evaluation. In case of difference of opinion on the merit of the dissertation, it shall be referred to a third examiner for his/her opinion. The result of the evaluation by the examiner shall be indicated either as 'Satisfactory' or "Not Satisfactory'. Each examiner shall submit his/her report of evaluation in the prescribed form within one month of the receipt of the dissertation.
Award of Degree
The Degree of M.Phil in Law shall be conferred on a candidate who, receives as 'satisfactory' report on the dissertation from the external examiners.
General
A candidate admitted to the M.Phil Degree Programme shall have to complete all the prescribed requirments within a maximum period of three years from and including the year of admission in order to be eligible for the award of the degree. However, in respect of the NLSIU's own faculty who has registed for the Degree Programme, the maximum time limit shall be four years including the year of admission.
