Scholarships & Loans
No student having obtained admission, has had to leave NLSIU due to financial problems. The tution fee for five years of study is about Rs.3.50 lakhs. However, NLSIU has always striven to ensure that once a student has made it to the selection list at NLSIU Admission Test, fee do not deter a student from studying here.
If a student has obtained admission into NLSIU, but cannot afford the fees, there are three options available to them:
- State Government scholarships for SC/ST Students
- Central Government Scholarships for SC/ST Students
- Educational bank Loans
- NLSIU scholarships/fee waiver
Government Scholarships
Many state governments provide scholarships for their state students to study in institutions of excellence such as NLSIU. Student can verify whether their state has adopted this policy. If a student is from a scheduled caste/tribe, most state governments have easily accessible scholarships.
Educational Bank loans
The procedure for obtaining bank loans is given below.
- Application to the branch manager of the bank in the hometown for a loan. Almost all banks provide educational loans, and discretion to sanction the loan is completely with the branch manager.
- Along with the application, submission of documents, including 12th standard mark sheet, and the letter of admission from the NLSIU is also necessary.
- Depending upon the terms of the loan provision of collateral security may be necessary. However educational loan schemes in most banks do not require either collateral security or a guarantee if the loan amount is less than five lakh rupees. A five lakh loan is sufficient for the expenses at NLSIU. Details on the various educational loan schemes which different banks offer are given below.
- NLSIU graduates, if they wish to join employment in law firms, etc., they are offered attractive salaries. All candidates appearing for recruitment organized by the student body have got attractive employment in the past. Given this scenario, most of the banks will be happy to extend the educational loan facility.
