POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN CHILD RIGHTS LAW (PGDCRL)-One year

NLSIU, Bangalore, invites applications for one year Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights Law (PGDCRL) - Distance Mode. The PGDCRL draws from the rich insights gained by Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), a specialize Research Centre at the NLSIU, engaged in research, training, teaching, practice and policy advocacy on various issues related to children since 1996. Eligibility for Admission: Graduate Degree from any recognized University OR similar qualification (15 years of education). The medium of instruction will be English.

Admission Procedure: Candidates intending to enroll for admission shall submit the duly filled in application form along with the attested copies of the Provisional / Degree certificates and the fee before the prescribed last date. Soon after completion of the admission process the confirmation of admission will be sent to the candidates.

Duration: One Academic Year.

Reading Materials: Reading Material comprising of compiled articles and some Self-Instructional Materials focusing on identified course modules, will be distributed to the enrolled candidates.

Paper 1: The Child, Family and the State in India : Realities and Issues

Paper 2: Child Rights, Policy and Law: International and National Framework

Paper 3: Key Legislations relating to Children in India

Paper 4: Working with Children from a Rights Based perspective

Paper 5: Research Project

The three contact classes (of three days each) as well as the Final exams will take place at NLSIU, Bangalore. The contact classes are not compulsory. The medium of instruction is English. Total fee at the time of admission is Rs.11,100/- (inclusive of Application fee of Rs.1,000/-).

For Papers I, II, III, and IV written examinations will carry 80 marks and assignments will carry 20 marks each. Written Research Project and viva-voce will carry 80 and 20 marks respectively.

Requirements for fulfillment of the Course

Every candidate has to appear for examination in four papers. Each paper carries equal marks.

Candidates are supposed to secure at least 50% marks in each paper.

Every candidate shall work on a Research Project (which will be considered as Paper V) and submit the project report before he/she appears for the written examination. Candidates are permitted to continue the course beyond the first academic year. However, project assignments shall be submitted before the candidate appears for the written exam in that paper.

In addition, each candidate is required to submit assignments on exercises given for each paper given on the last page of the Self Instructional Material for each of the papers..

Contact Classes: Candidates are expected to attend three contact classes of approximately three days each during the course.

Accommodation

The University will provide accommodation on first come first serve basis during the contact classes and examinations. A specific request to this effect has to be made by the candidate directly to the Warden, either by email to pgdcrl@nls.ac.in and warden@nls.ac.in or by post addressed to the Coordinator, PG Diploma in Child Rights Law, Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), National Law School of India University, Nagarbhavi, Bangalore 560 072, 15 days before the commencement of classes/exams. A nominal amount of Rs.125/- per day will be charged for accommodation in addition to the regular course fee.
