The University Grants Commission (UGC) founded the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore in February 2007. CSSEIP formally came into being on January 1, 2009 and was officially inaugurated by Prof. A. Jayagovind, the then Vice-Chancellor of NLSIU. CSSEIP promotes interdisciplinary research on the varied forms of social marginality and exclusion in India. Besides offering courses for B.A., LL.B (Hons) and LL.M students at NLSIU, CSSEIP undertakes academic, legal and policy research with a special focus on caste, tribal and religious minorities with an active commitment to furthering democratic practices.
