History
The National Law School has been equipped with computers since its inception. During 1996, the university became one of the members for the usage of Email facility offered by Educational and Research Network (ERNET) through UUCP connectivity. Text browsing was also the facility offered by ERNET which was enabled at the Library and Computer Centre on a few computers. In the year 1998, the University established a Leased Line Connectivity from VSNL for a bandwidth of 256 kbps. With the acquired bandwidth, the Internet facility was distributed to the entire academic building. In addition, the web servers and mail servers were hosted from the University Campus.

Computer Resources
The NLS has provided a campus wide Wired and Wireless Network for the students. The Academic block is equipped with 200 Wired Nodes and 150 Wireless Nodes. The Students use the network facilities to browse online databases, CD-ROM databases and online full text journals, surfing, communication, etc. A fiber-optic backbone is being laid across the campus connecting the Shri Narayan Rao Melgiri Library (new library building) with the Academic block. The Wi-Fi and Ethernet are provided at the New Library building.

Currently, the academic block has around 100 computers which are networked. There is a 512 kbps leased line connection to the internet. The computer lab has around 30 computers for the exclusive use of students and is open 18 hours on all days. There are also computers in the library reference section connected to the internet. Students also make use of Scanning, Printing and CD-writing facilities. The future plans include that of acquiring 512 kbps additional bandwidth and to provide the hostels with Internet connectivity.

Teaching Facility
Every classroom is facilitated with a LCD Projector and a Laptop with Wireless connectivity. The Wi-Fi connectivity at the classrooms enables the students to participate in discussion with the research material available online.

Video Conferencing Facility is provided for the various national and international discussion groups through a PictureTel video Conference Equipment connecting with an ISDN and also on Internet. Every year, the NLS hosts the Alternate Dispute Resolution Competition with the Stanford University through Video-Conference.

Leased Line Connectivity
The University is connected with Leased Lines from Internet Service Provider namely VSNL (256 kbps) and ERNET (256 kpbs). Totally the University caters to around 350 Nodes with 512 kbps bandwidth. The Nerve Centre possesses Cisco Routers, Cisco Managed Switch and latest Modems. The segmentation of zones namely Students, Wi-Fi, Faculty, Admin, Library are being achieved through a Managed Switch. The traffic to the WAN and LAN are monitored through high-end hardware and software tools to cater to the needs of the University effectively.

Web Hosting at NLS
IBM X Series 225 Servers with Raid 5 implementation are being used for hosting the web servers and mail servers at National Law School . The NLS presently has hosted five web servers namely

Future Plans
The NLS plans to expand its bandwidth still further to cater to the needs of all the users across the campus. NLSIU is moving towards enhancing the technological teaching aids in the classrooms and conference halls. The laptop purchase is facilitated through university every year to enable the student to adapt to the state of the art technology during his/her program at National Law School .
