Admissions FAQs (Updated on July 1, 2020)

Here are some FAQs that will help you gain a better understanding of the Admission process at NLSIU. Please follow this page for regular updates.

UG programme

What is the deadline for applying to NLSIU this year?

Admission to NLSIU is based on CLAT scores. 

Application deadline: The last date to apply for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is July 10, 2020. Click here to register:

When: CLAT is scheduled to be held on September 7, 2020 | 2 pm – 4 pm 

Announcements regarding the admission process and counselling will follow after CLAT. 


Are there UG course options other than BA LLB

NLSIU does not offer any UG courses other than BA LLB. 


Is there any age limit to apply for the course? 

There is no age limit to apply for UG and PG courses.  


Does NLSIU offer BA LLB through distance mode? 

No, the 5-year integrated BA LLB course is only offered on campus. 


Can I pursue BA LLB  part-time at NLSIU?

No, we do not offer part-time BA LLB courses. 


Does NLSIU give additional time for International Baccalaureate (IB) students to submit their final grade 12 transcripts? 

We do not accept predicted or mid-year transcripts. Students will have to produce their final transcripts during counselling and allotment of seats. 

Please note, due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, the allotment may happen at a later date this year. 


Does NLSIU accept students who wish to transfer from other law schools for the  BA LLB course? 

We do not accept transfer students. 


Foreign Nationals:

Do Foreign Nationals also have to appear for CLAT? Is there any provision for direct admission? 

There is no provision for direct admission of foreign nationals to NLSIU.

Foreign Nationals who wish to apply to NLSIU have to compulsorily appear for CLAT. Foreign nationals who possess a PIO (Person of Indian Origin) or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card are eligible to appear for CLAT exam. 


What is the procedure to secure admission under the NRI quota? 

NLSIU does not have an NRI quota. 


I’m an NRI and I have completed my schooling abroad. Will my grades be accepted? 

The  candidate will first have to appear for the CLAT examination. If you secure admission, NLSIU will consider your grades. Upon converting your school grades, it should be equivalent to 45% under the Indian grading system to be eligible. 


Other Courses:

I have completed my undergraduate degree. Can I apply for a PG programme at NLS? 

Students will have to complete their BA LLB programme to be eligible for the LLM programme on campus.

Students who have completed any undergraduate degree may apply for the on-campus MPP programme or off-campus distance education programmes offered by our Distance Education Department:  


Can I apply for an LLD programme at NLS?

This year (2020-21), NLSIU is not offering the LLD programme. Follow this page for further updates.
