Profile

Dr Kumar is an independent researcher and academic based in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. In addition to visiting and guest-teaching engagements, she consults with content creators on brand endorsement disclosures and ASCI compliance, and advises Chhattisgarhi music artists on copyright-related matters. She has served as Associate Professor and Associate Dean, and Associate Director, Centre for Post Graduate Legal Studies (CPGLS) at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) from November 2020 to December 2025. During this period, she taught the self-designed elective courses Comparative Celebrity Laws: Personality, Publicity and Free Speech and Recognition, Enforcement and Execution of Arbitral Awards, and had earlier also instructed the elective Laws of IPR in International Trade, along with the compulsory core courses in Legal Methods and Alternative Dispute Resolution. She served as the Chairperson of the JGLS ADR Society’s Faculty Board (2021–2023), under whose leadership the Society’s student teams secured over ninety awards annually at international and domestic ADR competitions.

She earlier served as an Assistant Professor at NALSAR University of Law (2019-2020) and has also held positions as an Assistant Professor at Amity University Chhattisgarh (March 2018–February 2019) and at the National Law University, Jodhpur (2014-2017), where she headed the Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL) and oversaw the activities of the flagship journal, the Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL). She was awarded her PhD in 2025 from NLU Jodhpur. Her doctoral dissertation, situated within celebrity personality rights, adopts a comparative law lens to examine and define the contours of a right of publicity regime in India.

She is an alumnus of HNLU Raipur (2012), where she was awarded 15 gold medals for outstanding academic performance. She subsequently graduated from the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, with a specialised Master’s in International and Comparative Law (2013). At NUS, she completed a directed research dissertation titled The Taking of Evidence in International Arbitration: A New Legal Regime, supervised by Prof. Gary F. Bell. She also completed the WIPO Singapore Summer School (June 2013) and worked as a summer research assistant under Prof. Irene Calboli on a project examining sustainable development and the economic value of geographical indications. She further contributed, as India rapporteur under Prof. (Dr.) Harisankar K. S., to a research project at the E. W. Barker Centre for Law and Business on the adoption of the UNCITRAL Model Law in Asia, subsequently published in a Cambridge University Press conference volume.

Her research and writing continue to engage with domestic and international arbitration and intellectual property law. She also serves as guest faculty at CII and CREDAI arbitration workshops and conferences, and conducts training programmes for police personnel on IP infringement and piracy, as well as for higher educational institutions on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace and the applicable UGC Regulations. She is an HRCI, SHRM, and CPD-certified trainer in workplace diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), gender sensitisation, and POSH compliance.
