The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) invites applications for one full-time Programme Manager, Litigation Fellowship position under the Litigation Fellowship Programme (30 Fellows).
The Fellowship Programme will run from August 2026 to July 2028 and is designed to support the professional development of early-career litigators through structured mentorship, training, and peer learning opportunities. The position is based at the NLSIU Campus, Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, and is offered on a full-time contractual basis for an initial period of one year, renewable based on performance and programme requirements.
The Programme Manager will report to the Director of Clinics, NLSIU, and work alongside a Co-Programme Manager to support programme implementation, Fellow and mentor engagement, reporting and evaluation, training and capacity-building activities, and administrative and outreach functions across the Fellowship Programme.
About the Programme
The Litigation Fellowship Programme places 30 Fellows with mentor advocates and litigation chambers over a two-year term. The programme combines structured mentorship, a curated reading and training curriculum, and regular reporting and evaluation processes.
The programme is supported by clearly defined Terms of Reference, a structured calendar that includes monthly, quarterly, and biannual in-person engagements, and formal reporting mechanisms for both Fellows and mentors.
This position is the second Programme Manager role for the cohort. The two Programme Managers will share responsibility for programme administration, reporting, events management, and Fellow support, with each managing a designated portfolio of Fellows and mentors.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
Fellow and Mentor Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of Fellows and their mentor advocates/chambers.
- Track Fellow placements, attendance, and progress against programme milestones and timelines.
- Coordinate regular check-ins with Fellows and support quarterly and biannual in-person convenings.
- Identify and escalate placement, mentorship, performance, or wellbeing concerns to the Director of Clinics in a timely manner.
- Facilitate effective communication between Fellows, mentors, and programme administration.
Reporting and Evaluation
- Administer Fellow and mentor reporting processes in accordance with the programme’s evaluation framework.
- Consolidate periodic reports into programme-level updates for the funder and University administration.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of Fellow participation, attendance, performance, and milestone completion.
- Support programme monitoring, evaluation, and impact assessment activities.
Training and Capacity Building
- Support the delivery of the programme’s reading curriculum and training sessions.
- Coordinate schedules, faculty engagement, and guest facilitators for workshops and learning events.
- Assist in organizing skills-development workshops, assessments, and professional development activities for Fellows.
- Monitor participation and learning outcomes across training interventions.
Administrative and Outreach Functions
- Maintain the programme calendar and ensure timely communication of deadlines, events, and programme updates to Fellows and mentors.
- Support budgeting, logistics, procurement, and vendor coordination for training sessions, workshops, and in-person convenings.
- Assist with correspondence and reporting to the programme funder (APF), partner organizations, and other institutional stakeholders.
- Maintain programme documentation, including Terms of Reference, MoUs, trackers, databases, and administrative records.
- Coordinate outreach and engagement activities with mentor advocates, litigation chambers, partner institutions, and relevant stakeholders.
- Support dissemination of programme information through events, communications, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
- Facilitate relationship-building and ongoing communication with programme partners and collaborators.
- Ensure compliance with University policies, programme requirements, and reporting obligations.
Selection Criteria
Qualifications for the role
Essential:
- A law degree (LL.B./B.A. LL.B.).
- Ability to read, write, and speak Kannada fluently.
- 3–6 years of relevant professional experience, which may include:
- Litigation practice;
- Programme or fellowship management;
- Clinical legal education; or
- Legal sector/non-profit programme coordination.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and reporting cycles simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and other programme-management tools.
- Ability to work independently, exercise discretion when handling sensitive matters, and collaborate effectively with a co-Programme Manager.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with legal systems and fellowship programs is desirable.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in spoken English and Hindi
Experience
Essential:
- 4+ years in project/program management, preferably in legal education, access to justice, or nonprofit sectors. The criteria may be relaxed depending on the educational qualifications of the candidates
Desirable:
- Prior litigation practice or chambers experience.
- Familiarity with the Bengaluru litigation and chambers ecosystem.
- Experience managing university clinical programmes, fellowships, legal non-profits, or comparable multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Experience in funder reporting, grant management, monitoring and evaluation, data management, and programme documentation.
Compensation and Terms
Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, relevant experience, and University norms.
