Student Bar Association

The Student Bar Association (SBA) is the representative body of all students enrolled in full-time programmes at NLSIU. Every student is by default a member of the SBA, making it both the largest and the most active student-led institution on campus.

The SBA is governed by its own Constitution and Guidelines, and operates under the support of University Administration, and the guidance of the Dean (Students) and Vice Deans. This framework gives the SBA substantial autonomy while ensuring meaningful dialogue with the University. It also allows the SBA to take up a wide spectrum of initiatives that shape the academic, cultural, and social life of students at NLSIU.

What We Do

The SBA is at the heart of student life on campus. Over the years, it has earned recognition for the sheer range of activities it undertakes: mooting and legal services, theatre productions, debates, literary and cultural festivals, sporting events, academic publications, and more.

The SBA Constitution provides for the yearly formation of:

  • Activity-Based Committees
  • Student Advocacy Collectives
  • Activity-Based Collectives

Students can join one Committee and as many Collectives as they wish. Each body is led by elected student Co-Conveners and supported by Faculty Advisors, combining student initiative with mentorship.

For more information on SBA Committees, please visit the Student Clubs & Activities Page

Governance and Representation

The SBA is a student-led governance structure, providing students with the platform to choose their representatives. Every class elects two Student Council Representatives who collectively serve as the primary liaison with faculty and administration on academic matters.

The SBA is also supported by its Secretariat, which looks after specific portfolios ranging from committee coordination to residence life, finance, and public relations. You can read more about the Secretariat here.

The University supports the intra-institutional activities of the SBA, while Committees and Collectives also raise sponsorships for larger inter-institutional events.
