Course Description

This is an introductory Macroeconomics course aimed at understanding the functioning of the economy as a whole, with focus on application of stabilisation policies in the Indian context. It explores key indicators of aggregate economic activity such as GDP growth, unemployment, inflation, trade balance, and the role of stabilisation policies. The course begins with questions that naturally arise at different stages of life: What are the chances of finding a good job? Why do real wages change over time? Why does the cost-of-living rise? Why do interest rates increase? How do business cycles influence one’s income?  By engaging with these questions, students learn to analyse how macro-economic developments, as remote as a rise in interest rate by Japan, or changes in tariffs by USA, or disruption in State of Hormoz could shape individual household financial decisions and societal outcomes.
