Payoshi Roy is a practising advocate litigating death sentence cases, cases of custodial death and other criminal cases before various High Courts and the Supreme Court of India. She has taught as visiting faculty at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and NLSIU, Bengaluru, where she teaches a course on capital punishment. Aside from litigation, she was part of the core team on “Uncertain Justice: A Citizen’s Committee Report on the North East Delhi Violence 2020”.

She has a BA LLB from The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata and LLM from Columbia University where she was a Fulbright Scholar and researched the political and cultural implications of the death penalty in India.
