Profile

Sriya is a legal and policy researcher, with a focus on technology policy and regulation. Her work experience spans academia, teaching, legal practice, and policy, looking at the intersection of technology, law and society through varied lenses. Through her practical experience at a leading law firm and as in-house counsel with a technology startup, she has experience advising both government and private sector entities in India on the regulation of emerging technologies. She has actively been involved in engaging with Indian regulators on Digital Public Infrastructure and cybersecurity.

Her current research focusses on regulation by design, AI regulation, data protection, and privacy law, with a particular interest in human-AI interaction in emotionally responsive and human-mimicking systems used in entertainment, companionship, and therapeutic contexts. Sriya has worked extensively on technology and regulatory design in the Indian and global context, and she is interested in blending the law, STS, digital humanities and philosophy through her research. She is particularly passionate about contributing to child safety frameworks in the context of new technology.
