A Seven-Year Streak! | NLSIU Ranked #1 Law University in NIRF Rankings 2024
August 12, 2024
We are honoured and proud to be ranked #1 in the NIRF Law Rankings 2024 and maintaining a 7-year streak! On August 12, 2024, the Minister for Education, Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan, released the National Institutional Ranking Framework results for 2024 in New Delhi. Dr. Saurabh Bhattacharjee, Associate Professor of Law and Dean-Academics, received the honour on behalf of the University.
We are grateful for the support of our Governing Bodies, especially Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, Ministers and Officers of the Government of Karnataka, the Chairperson and members of the Bar Council of India who sustain this University.
As a public university with modest resources, these results are possible due to the exceptional work ethic of our dedicated University teams who are committed to the University’s founding ideals that we cherish and protect every day.
NIRF 2024 Review
NLSIU improved its overall score in the ranking compared with 2023. A closer look at the five parameters reveal sharp upgrades to our ‘Teaching, Learning & Resources’ and ‘Graduation Outcome’ score.
Teaching, Learning & Resources – 90.31/100
Research & Professional Practice – 61.85/100
Graduation Outcome – 85.40/100
Outreach & Inclusivity – 70.80/100
Perception – 100.00/100
Total Score – 83.83
Three ongoing developments in the University are noteworthy:
Infrastructure – the University is undergoing the most significant infrastructural redevelopment since its founding. We are redeveloping both our academic precincts, building a new student centre and sports facilities. We eagerly anticipate the grant of additional land to expand our residential facilities.
Faculty & Staff – in AY 23-24, 24 new faculty with excellent academic records in the fields of law, public policy, and the social sciences have joined the University. We continue strengthening our administrative and research teams to deliver better outcomes.
Research – Research activities have continued to expand with at least 20 active projects across law and the social sciences. In July-August 2024, the University hosted two cutting edge research conferences in the fields of comparative equality law, and constitution making in India.
Reflecting on the NIRF rankings, NLSIU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Krishnaswamy said: “While remaining a centre of national academic excellence we are committed to developing stronger partnerships with the court systems, the legal profession and the Union and State Governments of India to collaboratively deliver transformative and effective legal system reform.
We are engaged in a comprehensive review of the 5-Year BA LLB (Hons) curriculum in consultation with our Governing bodies. We plan to launch this renewed curriculum in AY 2025-26, and to develop high quality and accessible learning materials in collaborations with law universities and colleges to anchor the next generation of Indian legal education reform.
The NIRF Rankings give us the confidence to dedicate ourselves to these critical national goals.”
