NLSIU along with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) have established the HAL Defence Public Sector Chair in Business Laws to recognize teachers in the field, with the aim of producing high quality research, strengthening pedagogy, engaging in public policy dialogue and attracting world class researchers and academics to the University.

About the HAL Defence Public Sector Chair
The HAL Defence Public Sector Chair was established in 2012 through an endowment corpus from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The key objective of the Chair is to expand teaching and research on relevant areas of business laws which include contracts management, defence sector procurement, dispute settlement, and environmental compliance among other areas. The Chair further seeks to strengthen academic learning and pedagogy, contribute to policy dialogue and reform, foster a community of world class researchers and academics, facilitate training programmes, hold national and regional convenings, and produce high-impact legal research.
Role Description
Name of Post: HAL Defence Public Sector Chair in the level of Associate Professor
Vacancies: 1 (Unreserved)
Structure: Level 13A as per VII CPC
Appointment: On a contract basis for a period of five years, and extendable at the discretion of the University
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- A Master‘s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed).
- A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and master’s level for the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Differently abled categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.
- A relaxation of 5% may be provided to the Ph. D Degree holders, who obtained their Master’s Degree prior to 19 September 1991.
- The eligibility marks of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in a point scale prescribed by these regulations and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible, based on only the qualifying marks without including any grace mark procedures.
Eligibility for Associate Professor post
i) A good academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned/allied/relevant disciplines.
ii) A minimum of eight years of experience of teaching and / or research in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry with a minimum of seven publications in peer-reviewed journals and a total research score of Seventy five (75) as per the criteria in the UGC Regulations, 2018.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Associate Professor will be part of a dedicated team of faculty members working to advance learning and scholarship in the areas of contract law, property law, and other areas of business law intersecting with the defence sector.
The responsibilities will include:
A. Teaching
● Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
● Supervise student assignments, submissions, and thesis (as required);
● Evaluate students through examinations, presentations, and assignments as required
B. Research
● Contribute to designing and expanding the research agenda of the Chair;
● Publish in academic journals, books, and media platforms;
● Develop research proposals and grant applications;
● Organise guest lectures, public talks, and panel discussions on subject areas of the Chair as required;
● Develop training programmes in the areas of contracts, dispute resolution, negotiations etc. with special reference to defence sector;
● Conceptualize and organize an annual conference on defence sector laws.
● Participate in stakeholder meetings and contribute to policy and reform dialogues as required.
C. Administrative
● Serve on university committees and provide other institutional services as required;
● Serving as an Associate Professor under the Chair provides an excellent opportunity for emerging scholars to advance their research, demonstrate thought leadership in their field, and make meaningful contributions to evidence-based policy discussions and reform initiatives.

- The prescribed essential qualifications/experience indicated are the bare minimum. Merely possessing this qualification/experience will not entitle the candidate(s) to be called for an interview.
- The qualification prescribed should have been obtained from recognized Universities/ Institutions.
