NLSIU Conducts Training Programme for Officers of Central Pollution Control Board of India

The Centre for Environment Law, Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA), NLSIU, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and the department of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE), NLSIU organised a three-day training programme for officers of the Central Pollution Control Board of India from April 24-26, 2023. The workshop was conducted on ‘Environmental Legislations, Interpretations, Enforcement, Legal and Statutory Requirements – Case Studies,’ and was attended by 20 CPCB officers from different Pollution Control Boards across India.
The workshop focused on raising awareness about various forms of pollution and their impact on human health and the environment. Prominent experts and researchers presented case studies, scientific data, and trends related to air, water, and soil pollution. Discussions were held on emerging pollutants, including microplastics and electronic waste. Participants gained insights into the scale of the pollution problem and the need for effective control measures.
The workshop also delved into the policy and regulatory frameworks governing pollution control. Expert speakers highlighted national and international environmental laws, regulations, and best practices. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, exploring strategies for strengthening and enforcing existing policies. The discussions focused on the importance of collaboration between the Pollution Control Board, government agencies, industries, and civil society to ensure the effective implementation of pollution control measures.
The three-day workshop facilitated knowledge sharing, collaboration, and capacity building in pollution control. It also focused on strengthening policies, fostering collaboration, and embracing legal understanding. In essence, the workshop empowered participants with the necessary tools, information, and networks to tackle pollution challenges, safeguard the environment, and protect public health in the face of escalating pollution concerns.
