NLS Law and Society Archives: Digitisation Workshop
January 3, 2026
The NLS Law and Society Archives invited Dr. Rahi Soren and Ayan Chatterjee from the School of Cultural Texts and Records, Jadavpur University, to conduct a one-day training session for the archives team, Ammel Sharon and Rajesh Gupta, on camera-based digitisation of records on January 3, 2026.
Camera digitisation is particularly useful when records cannot be moved from their location, when transporting a large scanner is impractical, or when materials exceed the dimensions of standard book scanners.
The Jadavpur University team demonstrated the complete workflow for camera digitisation, including preparing records for capture, compiling and using catalogues, assessing physical condition, an introduction to digital cameras, camera set-up, image processing, and the use of checksum software to verify file integrity.
This method follows the guidelines recommended by the Endangered Archives Programme at the British Library. Jadavpur University serves as the South Asia hub for the programme.
