The understanding of Competition law and its enforcement is incomplete without an understanding of the underlying economic rationale. The course aims at explaining the fundamental economic reasoning behind competition law and the establishment of anticompetitive practices through the use of economic theory and empirical analysis. Recent developments in this field and the limitations of the same, particularly in application to the High Technology markets, will also be discussed. While the Indian competition law and relevant cases will be discussed the course will also use cases from other jurisdictions particularly the US antitrust law and the EU competition law for a better understanding of the use of economic techniques.
