Profile

Dr. Somashekar has over 20 years of experience teaching economics and law. He is currently a member of the advisory board for the European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE), a member of the Governing Bodies of NLSIU and the Madras Institute of Development Studies, and part of the Board of Studies of the Ramaiah Law School.

At the National Law School, Prof. Somashekar has previously held the position of interim Registrar during 2020, and was also Chairman of the Undergraduate Council, the Postgraduate Council and the Doctoral Council at different points in time.

Spanning his career of 20 years, he has held various other positions including the following:
Erasmus Mundus Fellow at the Institute for Law and Economics at the University of Hamburg, Germany (2006)
Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of Karnataka to help formulate the industrial policy (2008)
Two time United States International Visitors Leadership Program participant to study US trade policy (2009-10)
Global Visiting Professor at the Dedman School of Law, Southern Methodist University, Dallas (2010 -2014)
Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Chair Professor at Sciences Po, Paris (2011)

WTO, Competition law and other areas of regulation.
