Course Description

This course constitutes the first part of the three-part clinical elective on Criminal Justice that will run across all three trimesters of 2026-27. The focus of interventions in the Criminal Justice Clinic is the pre-trial stage of the criminal process, particularly concerns of detention, remand and first production, bail, among others. The Clinic attempts to make institutional and rights-based impact on the crisis of undertrial incarceration facing the Indian criminal justice system today, and the violation of constitutional rights, particularly rights to life, liberty, due process and the presumption of innocence for over-policed and over-criminalized communities.
