The course is designed to offer practical insights into various facets of Public Finance within the Indian context. It comprises two main parts. The first part focuses on fundamental aspects such as budgetary processes, administrative and legislative procedures related to budget preparation, and an in-depth understanding of revenue and expenditure components through key budget documents.

The second part delves into inter-governmental financial relations, exploring the roles of Union and State Finance Commissions, along with a concise overview of the financial structures of local self-governments, specifically Urban and Local Bodies.   The financial dynamics of the Public Sector hold significant implications for the government’s overall fiscal situation. The course includes a brief historical overview of the public sector landscape, incorporating initiatives related to disinvestment and privatization and public expenditure.
