NLSIU Alumna Ms. Nayana Motamma Wins Legislative Assembly Seat in Karnataka Elections 2023!

NLSIU congratulates our alumna, Ms. Nayana Motamma (BA LLB 2003), who won the Mudigere seat in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections earlier today – May 13, 2023.

Nayana graduated from NLSIU’s five-year BA LLB (Hons) programme in 2003 and went on to pursue her LLM from the University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a Corporate Lawyer in Luthra and Luthra Law Offices, and later at ICICI Ltd. Prior to this election, Nayana was practicing in the High Court of Karnataka and litigated several public interest issues.

During her time at NLS, Nayana was a member of the University Basketball Team and the Sports Committee among several other co-curricular achievements.

Recalling her time as a student at the University, NLS faculty member Prof. Babu Mathew said: “She was a very active student with a special sensitivity towards social issues. I would say she was a chip off the old block.” She is the daughter of Ms. Motamma who previously served as a Minister of Women and Child Welfare in Karnataka.

Today, we celebrate Nayana’s victory as a testament to the vibrant, successful and socially engaged NLSIU alumni community who strive to reshape their corner of the world.
