Univ Week! | May 2023

May 5, 2023

At the end of another Academic Year, NLSIU’s students did not fail to disappoint the crowds as they brought their best moves, and an abundance of creativity and talent to Univ Week 2023! Students across batches competed in the Univ Week from May 1-7, 2023 in order to win the prestigious “Cul-Shield”.

The annual event is an inter-batch competition, usually organised toward the end of the academic year by the Cultural and Fine Arts Commitee (Culcomm). The participating batches are assessed by a panel of judges and awarded points for the ‘Cultural Shield of the Year.’

The week kicked off with the Western Music and Western Dance events where the performances were judged in the formats of solo/duet and group performances. These performances were judged on a Western style of dancing with no restrictions on languages or style of the songs itself. This made for an interesting first day of events!

This was followed by a meme making competition and Batch Colour Day where every batch was dressed in the same colour, including some of our faculty who took part in this event. The Cultural and Fine Arts committee also performed flash mobs during class breaks. The much-awaited Art Mela also offered a range of activities to the student body to showcase their creativity and skills in hand painting, face painting, mural painting (introduced this year), mehendi and rangoli. Students experimented with their paints through abstract designs and African tribal patterns. Meanwhile, the rangoli competition saw a huge turnout with students making the most stunning and intricate rangolis providing a visual treat for passersby.

High Tea – The week concluded with a High Tea mixer for all students, faculty, and staff organised by the Event Management Committee of the SBA. Besides an array of delicious food, the evening was an opportunity to take faculty-student relations beyond the formal setting of the classroom and enable everyone in the NLS community to engage with each other for informal and meaningful discussions.

Students brought their enthusiasm, imagination, and originality to all events, making this a fun and eventful week, not just for the participants, but also for the NLS community at large.
