The first iteration of this Clinical Labour Law course at NLSIU will be a natural progression from and continuation to the mandatory core courses: Labour Law-I and Labour Law-II. Therefore, only those students who have cleared these two courses in the previous terms are eligible to enroll for this course. In the core courses, the students were taught how to read labour legislations closely and critically. They were introduced to various aspects of the ongoing changes in the legal regime governing labour and work in India. This version of the clinical course will bring that legal text to life in the classroom by training the students in policy research, legal advocacy and strategic litigation using labour law concepts that students have already been taught. Students will then engage with various partners of the Clinic – legal practitioners, litigation firms, trade unions and NGOs – under faculty supervision to implement this training in various projects along with the partner organisations. In the way that the mandatory courses were an introduction to the law as legal text, this clinical course will be critically revisiting that law as a practical tool for access to justice.
