- Elective Course
The course is offered as an elective in the specialised area of the collective forms of intellectual property (IP). Collective forms of IP merit special attention owing to their collective nature. IP, being a private property in its conceptual foundation, sits poorly with the collective nature of some forms of IP. It, in turn, presents numerous challenges in protecting these IPs effectively.
The key areas of examination are Plant Variety Protection, Biodiversity, Traditional Knowledge and Geographical Indications. The primary pedagogical method employed is the Socratic method and case study discussions.
The discussions are based on both primary and secondary materials. Students are expected to read the assigned reading materials prior to the classes.
