The is a standalone course which serves to introduce the students to European Union law. It can be seen as a comparative law course which introduces the students to a novel legal order to be seeing within the broad framework of public international law with a nexus to international trade as well as a traditional federal state legal order.

The course will include reference to the EU Treaties, primarily the Lisbon Treaty, 2008 (Treaty on the European Union as well as the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union), case law of the Court of Justice and scholarly articles.
