Profile
Akshay is a trained mediator and an Assistant Professor of Law at the National Law University Odisha (NLUO). Prior to NLUO, he worked as a Guest Faculty in Law Centre – II, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
His research work examines the successes and pitfalls of the current arbitration system in India and explores the possibility of introducing a hybrid-arbitration mechanism for effective dispute resolution.
At NLSIU, Akshay is teaching a clinical course on ‘Community Mediation and Restorative Practices’ and ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution’ at NLUO. Apart from these papers, he teaches other subjects like Law of Evidence, Law of Crimes, Law of Contracts, Personal Laws, etc. at NLUO. He has been engaged in training the officers of law enforcement agencies like Odisha Police Officers, Officers of the East Coast Railway Protection Forces and Officers of Odisha Prisons Academy, on the new criminal laws.
Dr. Verma is the founding member of NLUO Mediation Cell which deals with live mediation cases. Further, he is the Project Coordinator for Project KUTUMB, NLUO which has the primary objective of betterment of village children vis-à-vis education, health and well-being. He is also currently associated with the Law School, University of Warwick under the International Economic Law (IEL) Collective Mentoring and Professional Development Scheme.
