Acknowledging 23 Years of Dedicated Service | Narayanamma
November 28, 2025
On November 30, 2025, our F&B staff member Ms. Narayanamma retires after dedicating over 23 years of her life to NLSIU. We thank her for the years of committed service and work ethic and wish her the best for her life ahead. She recalls her journey with the University and key memories along the way.
Originally from Malur taluk in Kolar district, Narayanamma has spent much of her life in Bengaluru. Her supervisors remember her as a steady, dependable presence—someone who kept her head down and carried out her tasks with quiet dedication.
On my NLS journey and how it began:
I joined the University in 2002 and began working in the Guest House (also referred to as the Training Centre Guest House) when it was still in the construction phase. At the time, I got to know that I could apply for work through another member of the cleaning staff here and I joined here as a contractual labourer. The Guest House was being handled by the then Manager, Mr. Stephen and later by Mr. Manikandan. During this time, the Director (former term for Vice-Chancellor) was Prof. Mohan Gopal and then Prof. Jayagovind.
In 2011, I switched to a full-time employee role during Prof. Venkat Rao’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor.

My work and the memories I’ll take with me:
I primarily carried out housekeeping work at NLSIU – besides the Guest House, I also worked in the Canteen, the Boys’ hostel and the Girls’ hostel blocks. Following the COVID year, when the University population was still sparse and everyone was yet to return to campus, some of us helped clean across several parts of the campus. We also used to serve tea in the canteens to those who did come to campus during this time.
From cleaning washrooms to utensils and dining hall, I’ve carried out cleaning across almost all parts of the campus. As I leave the University, I will remember all the people who worked with me.
During my first decade here, the students were very friendly and would enquire about us. I remember how a set of students had even brought cakes and sarees to celebrate the birthday of one of the hostel staff members Lakshmamma here on campus. That is a nice memory that I can recall even today.
Narayanamma lives with her son and daughter-in-law in Bengaluru.
