Prof. O.V. Nandimath Appointed Vice-Chancellor of WBNUJS, Kolkata

We congratulate Prof. (Dr.) Nandimath Omprakash V. on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata. Prof. Nandimath succeeds Dr. N. K. Chakrabarti, who served in the role since 2019, and will assume office in November 2025.
Prof. (Dr.) O. V. Nandimath is currently a Professor of Law at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru. He joined NLSIU as a Lecturer in 1997, and continued as Assistant Professor (2001), Associate Professor (2006) and then as Professor of Law (2009). He was appointed HAL Chair Professor in 2012 and was the Registrar from 2013-2019. He teaches courses in Professional Ethics, Financial Regulation, Medical Law, Business Laws, Environmental Law, and Banking Law.
He is a recipient of the Chevening Scholarship on Environment/Management Programme and was Visiting Scholar at Bradford University in 2001. He was a Visiting Faculty at Warwick University, Coventry, U.K. in 1999 and at Cardiff University, U.K. in 2003. He was also a Fulbright Fellow, and Stegner Fellow to the University of Utah during January-July 2006.
His published books include Environmental Law: Handbook for Law Practitioners (1999); ‘Enforcers’ Manual in Hazardous Waste Law and Management (2004); The Handbook on Environmental Decision Making in India – An EIA model (2009) and Health Law and Ethics – Critical Reflections (1st Edition, 2022).
NLSIU faculty in leadership positions

NLSIU’s Founder Director Prof. (Dr.) Madhava Menon went on to establish NUJS, Kolkata and was Founder Vice-Chancellor of the university, and also served as Chairman of Indian Statistical Institute;
Prof. (Dr.) N. L. Mitra (founding faculty and Director of NLSIU) became the Founder Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Jodhpur, and later became Chancellor of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University.
Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh was the Founder Vice-Chancellor of National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad and Founder Vice-Chancellor of National Law University (NLUD), Delhi;
Prof. (Dr.) S. Japhet was the first Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore Central University;
Prof. (Dr.) V. Vijayakumar was Vice-Chancellor of National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal and Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai;
