People & Culture Support

The People & Culture Office (PnC) is responsible for building a human resources framework that supports all faculty and staff at NLSIU. The office manages all aspects of recruitment, onboarding, compensation & benefits, performance, along with training and development, with the constant endeavour of creating an enabling environment at the University.

NLSIU Faculty Mentorship Programme

NLSIU aims to create a stimulating and supportive environment that enables our faculty to do their most innovative and exciting research and teaching. Towards this goal, we have developed and designed a ‘Faculty Mentorship Programme’ for our early career colleagues.

Mentorship is an expression of our core values and seeks to ensure that we continue to realise our mission – to pioneer legal education reforms and anchor the transformation of the Indian legal system through research and policy interventions. With the help of this reciprocal, supportive, and creative partnership, our faculty will be able to make significant contributions in research, teaching, and institutional service.

Successful mentoring relationships require active and committed engagement on the part of both Mentor and Mentee. All senior faculty members in the University are encouraged take an active role in the mentoring of early career colleagues.

Onboarding & Induction Programme

NLSIU has introduced a structured process that helps new hires integrate into the University. Its goal is to familiarise employees with the organisational culture, policies, expectations, and their specific roles so they can become effective and engaged team members as quickly as possible.

Therefore, the onboarding process has to be positive, consistent, and predictable. As per a report from Gallup (Workplace Consulting and Global Research Firm), “employees who have a positive onboarding experience are almost three times as likely to feel prepared and supported in their role, boosting their confidence and improving their ability to perform their role well”.

The NLSIU Onboarding process has 4 components:

  • Compliance – identification and explanation of the regulations, policies, and procedures employees need to comply with
  • Clarification – on the job expectations and performance metrics
  • Culture – an understanding of the work ethic/processes at NLSIU
  • Connection – opportunities to form workplace relationships with colleagues, managers, peers, and key stakeholders

This process lasts for 90 days until the new employee has been assimilated into the University.

Training and Development

This is aimed at enhancing the skills, knowledge, and competencies of faculty, administrative, and research staff. Through structured programs such as workshops, seminars, online courses, and peer learning, NLSIU equips employees with up-to-date teaching methods, research capabilities, administrative tools, and leadership skills. Training and development programmes also help align staff performance with institutional goals, promote innovation, and ensure compliance with educational standards and policies. The aim is to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Workplace Emotional Well-Being Programme

NLSIU recognizes the need to make mental health a priority at the workplace. In January 2024, the University launched mental health services for faculty and staff. NLSIU partnered with MindCrescent Wellness Ventures Pvt. Ltd (Amaha), to create a ‘Workplace Emotional Wellbeing Programme’ as part of this initiative and these services will continue to be offered for all faculty and staff. The launch of these services was initiated through a webinar which was attended by NLSIU faculty and staff.

The NLSIU “Workplace Emotional Wellbeing Programme” will include the following components:

  • Three (3) free 1-1 therapy sessions for each employee (does not include psychiatry sessions).
  • Access to the Amaha Self-Care App (includes self-assessments, programmes, mood trackers and access to a self-care library).
  • Surveys, webinars, and newsletters.

Sessions are online and can therefore be accessed from the privacy of the home.  The therapy sessions and surveys are completely confidential and are in multiple languages, as we have a diverse workforce. Details on how to use the App can be easily accessed through our ERP platform or our microsite (also accessible through the ERP platform).

On-Campus Health Centre

The NLS Health Centre, located behind the Training Centre on campus, has been revamped to upgrade our nursing and medical services. This health facility offers minor in-patient and testing services, with a well-stocked pharmacy for common illnesses. In December 2024, the University tied up with a new healthcare partner – Atreum Speciality Hospital, located in RR Nagar. As a leading multi-speciality hospital, Atreum is equipped to provide comprehensive healthcare services that can cater to the diverse needs of our community. This significantly enhances our healthcare capacity with highly standardised processes and skilled medical staff. It is also an essential service for seamless escalation of cases as required.

On-Campus Creche

To provide a safe, stimulating, and nurturing space for children of our faculty and staff, the University re-opened its in-house creche at a quieter location behind the Training Centre in 2022. The creche has been recently refurbished and equipped with an indoor play and outdoor play area. It is staffed with a Centre Manager/Teacher as well as nannies, depending on the number of children availing the facility.

Recognising the need for skilled and professionalised resources to run the creche, the University has partnered with Learning Age Pvt Ltd to operate the NLSIU creche. The Learning Age Preschool & Child Care (2013) operates day care centres, crèches and preschools in Bangalore and currently operates centres in tech parks, residential apartments, corporate houses and universities. It also offers an infant programme, a toddler programme, a pre-school programme, and an after-school programme for children in the age range of 6 months to 8 years. The Learning Program will focus on the child’s holistic development across Physical, Social-Emotional, Cognitive and Linguistic domains.

We encourage those with children below eight years to utilize this feature on campus.
Timings: 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on all working days.
