This course seeks to expose students to the concept, justification and jurisprudence of human rights. This is a foundational course, a core subject, to facilitate students in better understanding of the working and functions of the international and domestic human rights law and further helps in appreciating its impact on other laws.

This course follows historical, philosophical, theoretical and analytical representation of the concept of human rights. At the same time the international and domestic working systems are not included since they are separately taught as different courses. Documents in the form of declarations, conventions and human rights related instruments, along with books and articles from reputed journals are the sources from which the course is taught.

Both the lecture method and discussion are adopted. Special attention is given to the interaction with the students.
