Property law is a compulsory course in the law school curriculum. It is largely taught through of specifics of Transfer of Property law prism. The property law course also has a component of RERA as an introduction to real estate laws. The current elective is an advanced study of laws relating to land.

The course is not designed to holistically cover laws relating to land but to focus on those areas of land laws relating to acquisition, real estate, lease and rent control. These are areas of laws, a property law practitioner will mostly deal with.

Land acquisition in India is growing tremendously to keep pace with the developmental needs. The state interventions in land acquisitions laws have arguably backtracked the progress the LARR 2013 Act has made. The course will critically look at the acquisition laws of India and its supporting doctrines. Real estate is a flourishing business in India especially with FDI in real estate sector. The need for trained law professionals in real estate laws therefore is the requirement of the market. Lease and rent control is the back born of commercial as well as residential spaces. This course will also have its focus on commercial lease and rent.
