International arbitration has become increasingly prominent in resolving disputes between parties from different jurisdictions, and this course aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate this complex field. The course begins with an exploration of the theoretical foundations of international arbitration, including its historical development and legal frameworks. Students will then delve into the practical aspects of arbitration, covering topics such as the arbitration agreement, selection of arbitrators, conduct of proceedings, and challenge and enforcement of arbitral awards. The course further introduces students to the role and function of arbitral institutions in shaping the law and practice of international arbitration. More specifically, the course delves into the practice and procedures of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). This module will be taught by experienced faculty from SIAC. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the law and practice of international arbitration, enabling them to effectively advise clients, participate in arbitration proceedings, and contribute to the resolution of international disputes in a globalized world.
