Transparency and Access to Information, is pivotal to the functioning of a democracy and ensuring good governance. In the Information Age, access to data, reports, documents, etc are sine qua non of every Individual. This course seeks to provide a comprehensive learning on the Law related to transparency and good governance and will involve a discussion on: Official Secrets Act.

This would be an elective standalone course developing on some of core principles of Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Right to Information that is a part of the LL.B. curriculum.

Approach: Students would be introduced to the basic framework Law on transparency and good governance, including key legislations and landmark judgements, with special emphasis on the foundational international instruments that led to its emergence in India. The Indian laws and policies on the subject – would be dealt with in great detail. The course would deal with the practical application Both primary sources literature and secondary readings would be a part of the course.

Teaching Method: The pedagogical method adopted would include lectures, seminar style discussions, group discussions, class-room exercises, with greater emphasis on student participation which will include case study exercises and case law presentations by students.

Course layout: The Course would be spread across 10 weeks.
