The course is intended to familiarize the participants with issues in financing public policy operations, and enable them to appreciate the economic role of government with markets and without markets in the context of resource allocation, stabilization and distributive effect. The course assumes prior learning of some basic concepts in micro and macro economics and basic statistics, theory of firm, theory of demand, market structure, regulation, national accounting and price indices. It is intended to give a brid’s eye-view of central themes of public economics and related disciplines. At the end of the course, the expected learning outcomes is coherent understanding of fiscal policy operations viz., pubic revenue, public expenditure, and budget institutions in India and some understanding internationally.
