Profile

Spandan has more than 16 years of experience as a banking lawyer with some of the leading law firms in India in the sector. Until July 2023, he was a Partner in Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas specialising in banking, insolvency, and infrastructure. He has represented banks and infrastructure companies, in relation to consortium / standalone financing of power projects (thermal, renewables, gas), airports and projects in roads, telecom sectors; and has advised on marque debt capital market transactions.

He advises banks, NBFCs, PE funds and corporates on corporate loans, ECBs, structured debt, and quasi equity investments, in wide ranging sectors from real estate to manufacturing companies. He advises on restructuring of loans both at individual borrower and at group levels, and on enforcement of security/sale of project through private and public processes, in various real estate, roads sector, telecom and manufacturing companies. He has been deeply involved in the insolvency regime in India, advising the committees of creditors, lenders and resolution applicants in some of the largest insolvencies in the country. This includes the committee of creditors in two of the ‘Dirty Dozen’ cases, and in some of the landmark litigation in these areas such as Swiss Ribbons v. Union of India.
