Aim
The Cultural and Fine Arts Committee (CulComm) is where the vibrant side of law school comes alive. In a space often defined by lectures, case briefs, and deadlines, CulComm adds the essential balance, bringing colour, rhythm, and joy to campus life. Our purpose is simple yet vital: to create moments where students and faculty can take a breather from the demands of law school, connect with one another, and immerse themselves in experiences that celebrate creativity and community. Over the years, CulComm has undergone its own journey of evolution. From our humble beginnings, when events were smaller in scale and hosted in the Old Academic Block (OAB) we have grown into one of the most anticipated and trusted committees on campus. Today, our events are bigger, more creative, and draw incredible turnouts, with students counting on us to deliver the fun, the good vibes, and the unforgettable memories every trimester.
Our mandate is as dynamic as the people who make up our committee. We host competitions that range from music and theatre to art and stand-up comedy; we organise workshops in pottery, theatre, music, and more for those eager to try their hand at something new; we encourage a culture of participation where everyone feels welcome regardless of skill level; and we oversee cultural society auditions, with our Music Society launched in 2024 and the Dance Society auditions coming soon. We also have the privilege of bringing external artists and judges to our events, ensuring that every performance is an experience worth remembering. Our mixers, whether for students or faculty, create the perfect setting for building connections, one of the highlights being the Faculty Mixer during Univ Week 2025, which saw professors and students interacting outside the formal classroom environment.
One of the most remarkable aspects of CulComm’s journey has been its strong tradition of women-led leadership. Throughout the years, the committee has been helmed by inspiring women who have not only delivered exceptional events but also managed them with vision, creativity, and remarkable organisational skill. Their ability to balance large-scale planning with the warmth and inclusivity that CulComm is known for has been nothing short of inspiring. This legacy continues today under the leadership of Madhura Gokhale and Vaishnavi Rana, who have carried the torch forward, ensuring that each event is more memorable, well-executed, and innovative than the last.
At the centre of our cultural calendar is our flagship celebration, Univ Week, a week-long cultural extravaganza that transforms campus life. Each day brings something new and exciting, keeping the energy high and the anticipation alive. Univ Week is not just an event; it’s an experience that reflects the diverse interests and talents of our community. This year’s edition brought back nostalgic favourites like Rampage, our much-loved fashion show, while also introducing innovative elements like Beyond the Bell, where faculty and students spent an evening together over music, games, and lighthearted conversations, breaking the traditional barriers of formality. The festival’s mix of competitions, performances, and unique interactions creates an atmosphere where creativity thrives, friendships form, and everyone leaves with a story to tell.
But what truly makes CulComm special is the bond between its members. We’re more than a committee, we’re a family on campus. You’ll find us hanging out after meetings, laughing over coffee, playing games between classes, and turning even the most hectic event preparations into shared memories. CulComm work never feels like work because the people make it worth it, every brainstorming session, late-night prop-making spree, or sound-check run is infused with camaraderie, fun, and the kind of teamwork that turns colleagues into lifelong friends.
CulComm isn’t just another committee, it’s the heartbeat of the cultural life of our law school. With every event, we aim to inspire participation, spark creativity, and make sure that the law school journey is as much about living life to the fullest as it is about academic growth. We are the recipe for fun, the keepers of good vibes, and the reason why campus feels like more than just a place to study, it feels like a place to belong.
